CARDIAC/PULMONARY REHAB
The cardiac rehab program helps people who have suffered
a heart attack or undergone bypass surgery to transition back
into an active lifestyle. Cardiac Rehab is available to patients
living in the region regardless of where their family physician
practices.
The
program includes:
- An inpatient phase during hospitalization
- A period of monitored exercise for outpatients
- A risk factor reduction program
- A maintenance and prevention program
- Support groups
Nurses in this department are trained to conduct the exercise
and monitoring program as well as to teach about heart disease
and lifestyle.
Patients in the cardiac rehab program typically form a close
knit group. They may participate in a monthly support group
and take part in an annual awards banquet.
