Former Resident Returns to Serve Patients

Carrie Wilson considers Dunlap her hometown, and has a lot of family members who still live there. She is the daughter of Chris and Gary McDonald, and went to school in Dunlap until second grade.

Now she is returning “home” to serve as a physical therapist at the Burgess Family Clinic in Dunlap on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. “I am very excited to be working back in my hometown,” said Wilson. “I think it is great seeing people that I have not seen in a long time, or visiting with people who know my mom and dad.”

Getting the chance to help so many patients with different types of injuries is why Wilson thoroughly enjoys being a physical therapist at Burgess Health Center. She and the other physical therapy staff members can help with a number of issues, including: sports injuries, work injuries, joint and muscle pain, post-surgery rehabilitation, post-stroke rehabilitation, and wound care.

The relationships that Wilson forms with patients is what makes her love what she does on a daily basis. “It is amazing seeing someone who hurts and can't do the things they enjoy, but by the time they are done with therapy they are back to their activities that they love,” expressed Wilson. “Getting to help them have a better quality of life is an amazing feeling.”

Wilson received her bachelor's degree at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2006, and her doctorate in physical therapy from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo. in 2010.

She recently married Trevor Wilson, who is originally from Moorhead, Iowa and graduated from high school in Dunlap. His parents are Kip and Lois Wilson.
