Press Release
Burgess to Hold Big Blue Run Event June 5
The third annual Big Blue Run event will be held at Lewis and Clark State Park Saturday, June 5 at 8 a.m. along the scenic routes by Blue Lake. Walkers and runners are invited.
Races will start at 8 a.m. A 1.5 mile kids' fun run for those 12 and younger will
start at 9:30 a.m. All participants are invited to enjoy a pancake breakfast starting at 8:30 a.m. served by the Monona County 4 H Foundation for a freewill offering. This event is open to the public and community members are welcome to attend.
The Big Blue Run is sponsored by Burgess Health Center and Got 2 Move project leaders to promote fun and fitness activities and heart health. Proceeds will be used to purchase new park equipment through the Got 2 Move program.
"We will be recruiting more kids and groups of people to join us this year," says Sue McLaughlin, Got 2 Move coordinator involved with the Blue Run. “We want people to see how enjoyable walking at Blue Lake can be so they start a walking routine for better health.”
"We want our event to benefit the community as well as the participants," says Big Blue Run chair Kris Petersen, ER/Outpatient director at Burgess. "This year we partnered with Got 2 Move because of our shared vision of promoting fitness and health in our community."
Persons can pre-register online at www.burgesshc.org or on forms available in the community. Those who pre-register by May 21 will receive the official 2010 blue run t-shirt. Online registrations close June 3. Packet pick up available at Lewis & Clark Shelter House, June 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. The event will take place rain or shine.
