Two Cardiologists Address Wear Red for Health Event in Onawa

Men and women are invited to learn from two cardiologists at Burgess Health Center's third annual “Wear Red” luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9 at the Onawa Community Center.
Dr. Deborah Majerus and Peggy Hanner of Cardiovascular Associates of Sioux City will co-present a program connecting heart health with gardening. Dr. Claire Hunter of Creighton Cardiology Center will address new heart health guidelines for men and women.
Jackie, an on-air personality of KPTH TV Fox 44 of Dakota Dunes, S.D., will serve as mistress of ceremonies.
There will be gardening booths, blood pressure checks and heart health information at booths that open at 11 a.m. Staley's will serve a special luncheon with valentine touches.
Majerusis one of several cardiologists with CVA which now offers an outpatient cardiology clinic at Burgess. She is a non-invasive cardiologist with a medical degree from UHS/The Chicago Medical School. She completed her internship and residency at Loyola University Medical Center and her fellowship in cardiology at the University of Illinois Medical Center. Majerus is married to Dr Ed Zajac, an interventional cardiologist with CVA.
Hunter sees patients regularly at Creighton Cardiac Center on the Burgess campus. She is director of the Cardiovascular Fellowship Training Program and medical director of the Heart Improvement Therapy Clinic with Creighton.
Both cardiologists are board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease.
“This is a light-hearted and educational event for both men and women,” says Jean Pekarek, director of patient experiences. "We are delighted to welcome two distinguished heart specialists this year and pleased to add the fun twist with gardening."
Prizes will be awarded for red attire for both men and women. Cost is $10 for the public and $8 for active volunteers.
