Parents Invited to Free Dinner and Raising Fit Kids Program
Area parents of school-age children are encouraged to enjoy a free dinner and an entertaining program with healthy living expert Joe Piscatella Thursday, Oct. 22 while kids dance in a sock hop at when he at West Monona High School.
Piscatella will present “Raising Fit Kids in A Fast Food World” at 7 p.m. following a free dinner for all families at 5:45-6:45 p.m.
While Piscatella presents to adults, the kid's sock hop will be held in school gym. Kids must have a parent attend the program.
All parents are urged to attend along with everyone interested in youth health. Persons must register for the free dinner at www.burgesshc.org so enough meals are prepared. There will be hands-on education, blood pressure screens and blood sugar checks. Staley’s will serve dinner.
Piscatella is a best-selling author, high energy speaker and expert on the topic of heart health. He has been a guest on the Today Show, CNN, Good Morning America and Fox News and hosted PBS television specials on lifestyle and health.
In his presentations to the general public and healthcare professionals, he uses humor and decades of experience to deliver practical points that move audiences to live healthier lives.
“We have worked to create an event that educates parents in an appealing way and keeps their students busy," says Sue McLaughlin, Got 2 Move grant coordinator. "We are hoping for a great turn-out from school parents in Onawa and our surrounding communities. This is open to all of them."
Piscatella's all-day visit to Onawa is funded by the Got 2 Move grant from Wellmark Foundation, Burgess Foundation and the hospital. He also will address other groups earlier in the day.
