Press Release
Gamer Nights to be Held at the Library
Gamer Nights will be held for area youngsters in fourth to eighth grade at the Onawa Public Library from 5 to 6:30 p.m. the second Saturday of every month, beginning Saturday, Oct.10.
Gamer Nights will feature video games competition such as Wii-fit, Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero and more. The games were given to the library as part of the Got 2 Move grant program now benefiting kids in Onawa.
To encourage children to move more and eat healthier, Got 2 Move funds also will soon provide new library materials on healthy lifestyles for public use. Got 2 Move has already funded the new disc golf course at Gaukel Park and a dance video game system at the Onawa Community Center.
Funds from the Wellmark Foundation grant are supporting a special upcoming visit by Joe Piscatella, a nationally known health expert in Onawa Oct. 22. Piscatella will speak to school staff, school parents, the general public and health professionals on healthy eating and lifestyles in four different sessions for different audiences.
" We want to see the kids get up and get active," says Lori Beck, library director. "It's why we're in the Monona County Health Coalition. We all want to help our area kids and families live healthier."
Limited spaces are available for Gamer Nights. Call or sign up at Onawa’s library at 423-1733.
