Continuing Ed Heart Program Set for Oct. 22
Heart health expert Joe Piscatella will present the free educational seminar “Tools for the Classroom: Motivating Kids to Eat Smart and Move More” to staff members of five school districts Thursday, Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. at West Monona High School auditorium in Onawa.
Piscatella, a bestselling author, has been a guest on The Today Show, CNN, Good Morning America, and Fox News and hosted PBS television specials on lifestyle and health. His book “Fat-Proof Your Child,” presents basic rules to improve kids eating habits and practical tips to motivate kids to be active and eat healthy.
The classroom tools program is geared to teachers, paraprofessionals, support staff, administrators and other education professionals of the Boyer Valley, Whiting, Westwood, Maple Valley and West Monona school districts.
The education program is sponsored by Got 2 Move grant program and Burgess Foundation.

Earlier in the day Piscatella will present “Heart Health Living Increasing Dietary Compliance in Patients” to health professionals at a complimentary breakfast at 7: 30 a.m. at the Onawa Community Center.
He will identify the major factors responsible for dietary non-compliance, address patients’ ability to include “functional foods” in their diets and patients’ ability to create and use fat budgets in their diet. Persons should register with the Burgess education department by Oct. 20.
