Burgess Professional Earns Another Certification
Sharon Taylor, director of risk management and accreditation services at Burgess Health Center, has added yet another achievement to her professional record of health expertise.
She has become certified by the Healthcare Compliance Certification Board, a national organization that helps ensure that healthcare workers meet government regulations.
Taylor is one of only 10 persons in Iowa to earn the compliance certification. She was one of four to receive a scholarship to attend a national educational academy. Just two months ago, she was one of 50 invited to participate in a Washington, DC meeting on compliance sponsored by an office of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Taylor is also certified in infection control and risk management. With infection control, she works to prevent and address patient infection issues. The risk portion of her day addresses patient safety, privacy, prevention and other quality patient care areas.
" Sharon's initiative to become certified in three critical health care areas shows a high level of commitment and excellence," says Fran Tramp, Burgess president. "With dedication from Sharon and many others, our focus on quality, customer service and advancements at Burgess, we continue to strive to be the best rural healthcare system in the country."
Taylor's knowledge in infection control and risk management interrelates closely with healthcare regulation focus of compliance.
"You don't have to be certified in these areas, but I like to promote professional standards for myself and for Burgess," Taylor says. "By advancing standards of excellence we can ensure the care our patients receive meets high standards based on evidence-based practices and regulations.
A Burgess employee for more than 30 years, Taylor has worked in a number of hospital areas. She has a master’s degree in community health administration and health promotion in addition to her bachelor’s degree in nursing.
