Burgess Will Recognize Responders and Scouts at June 20 event

Area emergency responders, boy scouts, and area residents involved in the Little Sioux Boy Scout Camp tornado disaster are invited by Burgess Health Center to a Response Recognition Event Friday, June 20 from 5 to 8 pm at Gaukel Park, 320-10th Street in Onawa, located behind the Community Center.

The event will feature a brief program of tribute from government officials honoring the efforts of all persons who helped following the disaster June 11. A quiet moment of prayer will honor the scouts who lost their lives.

First Lady of Iowa, Mari Culver, is expected to attend along with Jacob Bossman, a representative from Senator Chuck Grassley’s office. A flag, flown over the U.S. Capital, will be presented from the office of U.S. Congressman Steve King.

“As president of the Burgess medical staff I want to express sincere appreciation to all those who responded to this recent tragedy,” said Dr. John Garred, Sr. “The professionalism and caring was truly teamwork in action that deserves formal recognition.”

Persons are asked to bring their own blankets and chairs. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be served.
