Burgess Foundation Golf Event A Success

Enthusiastic foursomes of 144 golfers teed off in the recent Burgess Foundation Golf Tournament to have fun and raise funds for a new fetal monitor for Burgess Family Beginnings.

The golfers played in a four-person Florida Scramble, raising $18,000 and netting proceeds of nearly $14,000 to further enhance care for mothers and babies at Burgess Health Center.

The Championship Flight First Place team, sponsored by U S Bank of Onawa, was Corey Johnson, Scott Johnson, Joel Spaan and John Heller. Their prize package included four $25 gift certificates and 24 can soft side coolers. Prizes were awarded to five flights.

Scores of persons supported the tournament with contributions and in-kind donations.

"Our sponsors play a major role in helping us with our annual golf tournament,” says Shirley Bruegger of Burgess Foundation. “We are grateful for their vital support and the commitment of our golfers and volunteers.”
Josh Lander, Burgess director of physical therapy, served as the volunteer tournament coordinator. Other volunteers were: Carolyn Westergaard, Burgess Foundation special events chairperson, Tom Bruegger, John Fister, Jamie Hansen, Mary Heineman, Beth Kirby, John Maule, Lori Pucelik, Janise Richardson and Sandy Rose.

Meal sponsors were Dr. Peter Daher and U S Bank. Tee Box Sponsors included: Creighton Cardiac Center, HDR, Architecture, Inc., Elmwood Care Centre, Hoffman Agency, Meyers-Carlisle-Leapley Construction Co, Iowa Hospital Association and Servishare, Shared Service Systems and Dr. John Terry.

Net proceeds from the event will help fund a Corometrics 250 maternal/fetal monitor which measures blood pressure faster, and allows laboring moms more freedom of movement to enhance their comfort during labor.
