It will be a day to learn when Dr. Claire Hunter, a cardiologist with Creighton Cardiac Center on the Burgess campus, presents “Heart Health in Today’s Busy World” for the Wear Red luncheon sponsored by Burgess Health Center Tuesday, Feb. 5.

It will be a day to laugh when Jenny Herrick, a humorous speaker, follows the cardiologist with the address “It’s Laughter We’re After.”

The event will begin at the Onawa Community Center with educational booths at 10:30 a.m. followed by a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. and addresses by the two speakers.

Hunter is director of the Cardiovascular Fellowship Training Program and medical director of the Heart Improvement Therapy Clinic with Creighton. A graduate of the Creighton University’s School of Medicine, she completed a cardiovascular fellowship training program there. She is a fellow in the American College of Cardiology and is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases.

The cardiologist, well known to Onawa area patients, has been on the medical staff of Burgess since 1990. One of her special interests is congestive heart failure.

Herrick will follow Hunter with a lighted-hearted talk. Her recently published self-help humor book “You Laugh, I’ll Drive” will be for sale after the luncheon.

“We are pleased to present an event that should be educational as well as entertaining,” says Jeanne Pekarek, director of patient experiences. “We have assembled special activities and ordered a special meal that reflects our heart healthy theme. We invite guests to wear something red to reinforce our heart health focus.”

Pekarek says Burgess planned the event so that persons on tight schedules can attend from 11:30 a.m. till 1 p.m., and those with more time can linger before and after that time.

Men and women are invited to the Wear Red luncheon, a program of Burgess Advantage. Cost is $7. Active Burgess volunteers will receive the discounted price of $5.

Persons should mail in reservation forms found in local newspapers, on the Burgess web site and at the hospital’s front information desk and other community sites. For more information contact Jean Pekarek at 712-423-9201.
