Physical Therapy’s New Space Enhances Patient Care

The physical therapy department of Burgess Health Center will hold an open house for the public on Sunday, Oct. 21 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. to show off its expanded new department.

There will be hands-on equipment demonstrations of new cable cross equipment and other therapy machines as well as refreshments and door prizes.

In moving from the Burgess annex inside the hospital walls this fall, physical therapy has more than doubled its space. The roomy gymnasium includes 10 major pieces of equipment.

There are four private treatment rooms with windows and an attractive waiting room that replaces a crowded waiting corner in the previous location. Flat screen TVs are set to arrive soon.

“It’s great,” says Josh Lander, director of physical therapy at Burgess. “We’re not as cramped, so we have more space to do more with patients.” Lander also enjoys the next-door proximity to the Family Medicine Clinic.

The weights, pulleys and handles of the new cable cross unit that just arrived will help patients increase strength in the upper and lower body, Lander adds. It will be ideal for patients with shoulder injuries and low back and hip pain.

“We work to eliminate pain, discomfort and restricted movement,” the Burgess physical therapist says. “We help patients improve their strength and mobility to minimize physical disabilities. With treatment most patients experience less pain and gain overall improved function in their daily routine which improves their quality of life.”

Lander says the expanded space also allows more room for athletes receiving treatment for for sports injuries.
