National Speaker on Humor and Health to Speak in Onawa
Barb Bancroft, a healthcare professional, author and national speaker, will mix the topic of laboratory results with humor at a special workshop for healthcare professionals Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Onawa Community Center.
The program is sponsored by Burgess Health Center with support from Abbott, Bayer and Life Scan.
The workshop will feature clinical laboratory topics in the morning sessions while later sessions address the health benefits of pets, exercise, sunlight and humor.
Bancroft is the author of “Medical Minutiae,” a humorous look at the fields of medicine and nursing, “An Apple a Day: The ABCs of Diet and Disease” and her newest release “Live a Little, Laugh a Lot.” She is currently working on “Bite Me: The ABCs of Bites and Disease and “Shampoos, Tattoos and Barbeques: The ABCs of Infectious Disease.”
She has won numerous awards of excellence in teaching, including the Distinguished Professor Award from the National Association of Biology Teachers. She has taught at the University of Virginia, the University of Arkansas, Loyola University of Chicago and St. Xavier University of Chicago.
Bancroft has presented more than 1800 continuing education seminars to healthcare professionals serving as a keynote speaker for the national conferences of orthopedic nurses, emergency nurses, nurse practitioners, biology teachers and infection control nurses.
