Burgess Offers Saturday Mammogram

Burgess Health Center is now offering mammograms on Saturday mornings to offer more convenience to busy women.

“We are starting off with two Saturdays a month to get the feel for the need,” says Jenny Coble, director of radiology at Burgess. “We recognize a lot of women who work outside the home may not be able to get away on a weekday for a test and we want to make getting a mammogram as accessible as possible. Our checks indicate that no other facility in the area offers this extra convenience for women.”
Mammogram Saturdays at Burgess are a good reason to schedule a mammogram that can detect breast cancer early.

Other reasons include the special foam cushions that make the screening more comfortable, and “Second Look,” the computerized screening system at Burgess that produces images that highlight tiny changes in breast tissue. Burgess also uses a heating pad for added comfort.

This October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month the hospital is once again offering patients a $10 discount coupon off their mammogram.

"Early detection is the key,” says Dr. John Terry, Burgess radiology director. “If breast cancer is detected early, it saves lives. That’s why our ‘Second Look’ system offers extra reassurance. Its computerized laser images highlight subtle changes in breast tissue that can be challenging to detect.”

Mammogram procedures take just 15 minutes, adds Coble. “We make it as comfortable as possible and enjoy a lot of friendly visiting with our patients. We look forward to Saturday’s more relaxed atmosphere.”

Area women should have a baseline mammogram at Burgess by age of 40, and should get a mammogram every year as long as they remain in good health, say Terry. To learn which Saturday mammograms will be offered at Burgess, call 712-423-9363.
