Patients Rate Burgess Tops
Patients have ranked Burgess Health Center among the top hospitals in the nation for patient satisfaction in its Emergency Room.
Hospital officials were so pleased with the news, they highlighted it on a billboard at a highway site down the road from Burgess. The board which will be up until Oct. 1 features Burgess emergency physician, Dr. Peter Daher; paramedics Kurt Petersen and Steve Foster; and Vicki Koenig, ER nurse.
According to the spring results of the nationally used Press Ganey patient satisfaction survey, Burgess was in the top 14 out of 1,347 hospitals, says Jeanne Pekarek, director of patient experiences. Burgess’s ER received the overall satisfaction rating of 99 percent, the highest score possible.
“We survey patients to learn where we can improve to provide the best quality experience possible,” says Pekarek. “We earned our top score with the efforts of all our staff members who contribute to the care of our ER patients.”
“You can’t get any better than 99 percent,” adds Burgess President Fran Tramp. “We sent out congratulations to all our employees who are involved in providing or supporting emergency room services. We all work together as a team.”
The ER patient satisfaction survey includes questions on the registration process, ER staff, doctors, lab, radiology, comfort and cleanliness of waiting areas, waiting time, pain control, privacy, and care and concern for not only the patient but also their family and friends. Surveys are mailed to homes after a patient is discharged.
“I was seen and treated as soon as I walked into the ER,” wrote one anonymous responder to a survey. “They were very friendly and caring. I was pleased with them,” wrote another.
“Nursing care was excellent,” appeared as a comment on an another survey along with “I was very impressed with (the doctor,”)
All Burgess departments that provide direct patient care or support services are working to get high scores, says Pekarek.
“We want people to fill out our surveys when they receive them and tell us how we’re doing. We’re working to provide our patients, visitors and family members with the most positive experience possible at Burgess and appreciate the teamwork of everyone involved.”
